Here are our top recommendations for the must-try attractions at Cafe Albania.
Rainbow Slide
Rainbow Slide, Cafe Albania (El Salvador)
Whilst Cafe Albania offers a range of adrenaline-inducing activities that cater to all ages and preferences, it is perhaps best known for its iconic rainbow slide.
This star attraction – a colorful masterpiece stretching an impressive 320m (1,050 feet) from top to bottom – is one of two rainbow slides in El Salvador. And whilst we never had the chance to experience the second one, we felt the Cafe Albania rainbow slide was definitely worth the visit! Imagine yourself hurtling down a slide made of thousands of small, round fiberglass pieces whilst you cling on for dear life to an inflatable tube, screaming with excitement (and yes, perhaps a wee bit of fear) as your speed increases the closer you get to the bottom…..
Sounds neat, right?
The brightly and boldly colored rainbow slide makes it a visual spectacle. As you slide your way through Cafe Albania’s lush outdoor parkland, providing riders with a thrilling, one-of-a-kind experience in a tropical paradise with breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Whether racing down for the thrill or snapping a social media-worthy shot, the rainbow slide is a must-try!
Some claim the Cafe Albania rainbow slide is not only its most famous feature but also its most exhilarating. But the thrills certainly don’t stop at the slide, and how can you make a comparison if you don’t try them all?
We’re just saying…
Ziplining: Surfboards and Bicycles, Oh My!
Surfboard Zipline, Cafe Albania (El Salvador)
Have you had fun with the Cafe Albania Rainbow Slide? Or perhaps you’re saving that thrill until last. What about trying some ziplining? And this isn’t your typical zipline experience…
Whilst Beck had previously ziplined in several different countries (including neighboring Costa Rica), the idea of ziplining on a bicycle or a surfboard was certainly something new to her – and she just had to try it!
Bicycle Zipline, Cafe Albania (El Salvador)
Have you ever dreamed of flying while pedaling? I’m sure there’s a little bit of Elliott and ET in all of us, so why not take in the beautiful views of the surrounding landscape whilst you’re suspended on two wheels 30m (almost 100 feet) above the ground? The bike zipline at Cafe Albania allows you to pedal through the air – and whilst we know Beck can be a bit of a daredevil, it was the bicycle zipline that, without question, had her the most nervous during her time at Cafe Albania!
Surfboard Zipline, Cafe Albania (El Salvador)
And for those of you craving a slightly different dose of adrenaline, then the surf zipline is another unmissable experience! Stand aboard a custom-made metal surfboard and “surf” across the long overhead wires. Another “first” for Beck!

If you’re game to try one of these unique ziplines, you won’t regret it - the panoramic views from the bike zipline or the surf zipline over the Cafe Albania complex are quite something.
Wings Swing
Wings Swing, Cafe Albania (El Salvador)
The next ride you may wish to consider adding to your list of “things to do whilst I’m visiting Cafe Albania” is the whimsical Wings Swing. Not every attraction at Cafe Albania is high-octane, but the beautiful Wings Swing is still worth a try, especially for those looking for something less adrenaline-fueled.
Adorned with brightly colored angel wings, the Wings Swing offers riders a gentle swing for a few minutes over the lush green scenery below. And yes, we also took at least a hundred photos on this ride!
Other Attractions: Taking A Slower Pace
For those who prefer slightly less adventure on their travels, fear not that there’s plenty at Cafe Albania for you too!
Try the Natural Maze – where you can test your navigational skills in the largest labyrinth in Central America. This life-sized maze takes you through towering walls of greenery as you search for your way out: it’s a great activity for visitors of all ages, and another opportunity to take in the beauty of the landscape that surrounds you.
Take some time to wander Cafe Albania’s tranquil surroundings and lush coffee plantations, while others zip overhead on bicycles and surfboards or whiz down brightly colored slides amongst the rolling hills.
With its ideal blend of grit and glam – adventure and relaxation – Cafe Albania provides visitors a fantastic day tour from the hustle and bustle of San Salvador and away from some of the more crowded tourist places in El Salvador. It’s an ideal place for families, adrenaline junkies, and anyone looking to explore the beauty of El Salvador’s Ruta de las Flores region.
Safety and Precautions at Cafe Albania
Safety first, Cafe Albania (El Salvador)
It’s completely natural to have safety concerns at an adventure park, whether it’s your first or your fiftieth time there. During our visit, we felt confident that Cafe Albania placed our safety as their top priority, taking every precaution to ensure visitors had a secure and enjoyable experience.
We were required to sign waivers before all rides (especially when venturing onto the “more intense” ones), and the equipment (including inflatable tubes and harnesses) were checked and triple-checked before we were permitted to embark upon any adventures. All the apparatuses used, and ride foundations seemed well-maintained. We also received comprehensive safety briefings – available in both English and Spanish – before each ride. Cafe Albania staff were first and foremost knowledgeable and professional throughout our visit, whilst also playful and willing to answer any questions we had.
Of course, visitors undertake all activities at their own risk, so we recommend following the instructions and safety guidelines provided by the staff. Just like the flight attendant safety demonstrations aboard the plane that no doubt brought you to El Salvador, the expertise of the young staff at Cafe Albania is key to minimizing the risk of any potential injury.

Getting to Café Albania: A Journey Worth Taking
Apaneca – and, in turn, Cafe Albania – is easily accessible from major cities in El Salvador, including San Salvador and Santa Ana, making it an ideal day trip destination. You can easily get to Cafe Albania by bus or car.
By Bus: If you're traveling from San Salvador, make your way to Terminal de Occidente, one of four main bus terminals in the capital. From there, take the #205 bus to Sonsonate. From Sonsonate, take the #249 bus, which runs all the way along the Ruta de las Flores, passing by Cafe Albania. If you’re starting your journey in Santa Ana, take the #238 bus to Juayua, and then transfer to the #249 bus heading toward Ahuachupan.
By Car: We chose to hire a private guide (with car) for our time in El Salvador and don’t regret it for a second. Driving (whether with a guide or on your own) offers flexibility, with the freedom to start and end the day at your choosing, as well as make additional stops along the journey to explore other highlights of El Salvador. From the capital, San Salvador, it’s a 2-hour (87km/54m) drive to Cafe Albania; from Santa Ana, it’s a little less, at 1.25 hours (50km/31mi). The Ruta de Flores is certainly worth a few days’ of exploration in and of itself.
Whether you’re choosing to board a bus full of locals, or to navigate the windy, scenic mountain roads of El Salvador in a private vehicle, the journey itself out to Cafe Albania is part of the adventure. Be sure to take in the beautiful landscapes that make the Ruta de las Flores region a favorite amongst almost all visitors to El Salvador.
Opening Hours
Café Albania is open every day, Monday through Sunday from 8am. The park closes on weekdays at 5pm, but remains open an hour longer (until 6pm) on weekends.
Entrance Costs
When we visited, the entry fee to Cafe Albania was only US$5 for adults and US$2 for children. Note that the entrance fee covers only your entry to the park itself, so be prepared to spend some additional cash if you’re keen to try some of the activities inside the park.
To pay for the rides (for example, the Rainbow Slide or either of the two ziplines), you’ll need to purchase “activity tokens” from a small booth near the park’s entrance. Each activity is priced differently, and you’ll receive a separate token for each ride you purchase. Some examples of per-person tokens include:
Surf zipline or bike zipline: US$10
Rainbow Slide: US$10
Wings Swing: US$1
Tours and Packages to Cafe Albania
Big Swing, Cafe Albania (El Salvador)
For a more streamlined and personalized experience, you may wish to consider booking a day or multi-day tour of El Salvador. Many local tour operators in larger cities like San Salvador and Santa Ana offer tour packages to visitors that generally include transportation, bilingual guides and accommodation – and may even include entrance to Cafe Albania and other nearby attractions.
Day Tours
Combine a visit to Cafe Albania with other highlights within the Ahuachapan region, including the Santa Teresa Hot Springs, the towns of Ataco and Apaneca, and even some dune buggying! Our day in the region included a morning hike to the Seven Waterfalls of Juayua, several hours at Cafe Albania, a walking tour of the colorful murals and street food stalls of Ataco, tasting freshly-baked Salvadoran quesadillas from a local bakery, souvenir shopping back in Ataco, and then returning to Juayua for freshly-made pupusas. A day well spent, for sure!
Longer Tour Itineraries
Want to explore beyond Cafe Albania and the larger Ruta de las Flores region? Many multi-day tours – including the one we chose – incorporate Cafe Albania into a broader exploration of El Salvador’s diverse attractions.
We utilized the services of Alfredo Avalos for our 10-day visit to the country and can’t highly recommend enough his company Explore El Salvador, whether you’re seeking a tour simply to Cafe Albania, or a tour that takes in additional sites a little further afield.
Discovering More of the Ruta de las Flores
Iglesia Santa Lucia (Juayua, El Salvador)
Do you have some extra time to spend, aside your adventures at Cafe Albania? We highly recommend diving a little deeper into El Salvador’s Ruta de las Flores, or Route of Flowers, one of the most visited destinations in the country.
This scenic 36km (22mi) stretch of road in western El Salvador, less than an hour from the Guatemalan border, takes you through the cooler highlands of the country and some of the most charming and colorful colonial towns you’ll ever see. Each town has its own unique personality, mixed in with numerous coffee plantations nestled amongst the hills, and markets brimming with local crafts and food.
Highlights along the Ruta de Flores include:
Juayúa: A colonial town known for its brightly colored murals, numerous festivals (don’t miss their weekend Food Festival!), and local markets.
Santa Teresa Hot Springs: Home to the largest geyser in Central America, here you can relax in the warm water thermal pools, perfect for unwinding after a long day of exploring the surrounding area (and certainly an excellent choice for relaxing after some hair-raising experiences at Cafe Albania!).
Coffee Tours: There are numerous coffee (and tea) tours available to visitors throughout the Ruta de las Flores. These tours offer you an opportunity to learn more about El Salvador’s world-class coffee production, whilst sampling fresh brews.
We highly recommend visiting this part of El Salvador during the Spring (March to May), when the flowers along Ruta de las Flores are in full bloom, creating a truly colorful, picturesque setting (photographers rejoice!).
